Austin Reaves has been a revelation for the Los Angeles Lakers, and his gritty and hustle play has won the hearts of the Lakers faithful.

So much so that MVP chants rang out multiple times, he took the floor. When asked about it, the guard had a modest answer and he appreciated the fans for their gesture.

“I mean… it’s love,” Reaves said, speaking to the media in the aftermath of the 117-111 OT win on Monday. “I’ve said many times. Clearly, I’m not in the MVP race, but the way that they support me either way, they love the way that I play. I’mma give it everything I got every single night. These fans expect this. They expect us to be in the playoffs, and go all the way.”

He further added: “If you told me that two years ago, I would have told you, ‘You’re crazy.'”

Reaves has been a valuable asset for the Lakers throughout the season. The regular season saw him average 13.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. He upped the numbers in the playoffs propping up 17.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in the four games he’s played so far in his maiden postseason appearances.

His biggest moment in the playoffs was in Game 1 when he let out an emotional “I’m him” celebration after he took over in the fourth quarter for the Lakers. He finished with 23 points to help the side go 1-0 up in the series.

Game 4 saw him put up a solid 23 points again, coupled with 4 rebounds, and 6 assists. He may not be MVP, but he sure is one in the eyes of the LA fans.

Austin Reaves Gets Candid About His NBA Future, Wants To Be A Laker For Life

Like his idol Kobe Bryant, Austin Reaves wants to start and finish his career as a Los Angeles Laker. And he’s one step there already by starting his stint with the purple and gold.

“I wanna be a Laker. Obviously, they gave me my first opportunity,” said Reaves. “I was a huge Laker fan growing up, a big Kobe fan, so honestly, just to be able to play for the Lakers organization is special, and I wanna be a Laker, so hopefully, we can get this done, and I can stay there for hopefully my whole career.”

Reaves will be a free agent this summer, and will surely get a lot of interest from other teams. The Lakers would be wise enough to not let go of a gem they unearthed.
