The 21st of July will go down as a historic day, with the legendary Lionel Messi making his debut for Inter Miami. Messi is regarded by many as the greatest soccer player ever and some big names were going to be in attendance for his debut against Cruz Azul.
It had been announced that Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James would attend the game and the two all-time greats shared an embrace before kickoff.
GOAT things. 😏

That was really special to see and the two certainly have a great deal of respect for each other. Just last year, LeBron had hailed Messi as the GOAT after he led Argentina to a memorable win over France in the FIFA World Cup Final in Qatar.
With it being the NBA offseason, James was not going to pass up the opportunity to see Messi in action here. He had to wait just a little bit for that, though, as the Argentine began the game on the bench. Messi came in the second half to an incredible reception as fans at the stadium went wild. He is far from his absolute peak now at age 36, but he is still a tremendous player and could be the one to help push the MLS to new heights.
LeBron James Has Been Interested In Soccer For Quite Some Time
While basketball is easily the sport James is most passionate about and loves the most, he has been interested in soccer for quite some time. He held a minor stake in Liverpool FC for over a decade and became a partner of Fenway Sports Group, which owns the club, in 2021.
He was in Paris last year to support Liverpool in the Champions League Final and once claimed he is a big fan of the team. James also became an investor in AC Milan last year as he looks to grow his business empire as well.
