It is yet another lost season for the Charlotte Hornets who find themselves near the bottom of the standings in the Eastern Conference.

Their latest defeat at the hands of the Orlando Magic dropped them to 20-45 and Micheal Jordan, who was courtside, looked devastated as his team was getting blown out.

The Hornets were down 87-65 at the time, so you understand why Jordan would be so disappointed. They would go on to lose 117-106 with promising Magic rookie Paolo Banchero scoring a game-high 31 points. Kelly Oubre Jr. led the way for the Hornets with 29 points while Terry Rozier had 22 but it wasn’t enough.

The Hornets are 14th in the East and have the 4th worst record in the league, with there being a very real chance they will be amongst the five worst teams in the NBA for the 2022-23 season. It is far from ideal, but it does mean they have a shot at the No. 1 pick, with which they could draft Victor Wembanyama. While MJ hasn’t done a great job as team owner over the years, this season isn’t entirely down to him.

LaMelo Ball has only managed to play in 36 games due to injury and he is out for the rest of the season with a fractured ankle. LaMelo is easily their best player and was averaging 23.3 PPG, 6.4 RPG, and 8.4 APG before going down with that injury. To go with his absence, the Hornets have also been without Miles Bridges, who was their second-best player last season. Bridges, who was arrested for felony domestic violence last year, could be returning to action this month and if that is the case, it is sure to be a controversial decision.

Michael Jordan’s Record With The Charlotte Hornets

Jordan bought a minority stake in the team back in 2006 and took full control of basketball operations right away. While success as a player came relatively easy for him, it hasn’t been the case when it comes to running a team. The Hornets have a 560-777 record since that 2006-07 season, with only the Timberwolves (487), Kings (504), and Knicks (549) recording fewer wins in that time.

They have only made the playoffs three times in all that time and failed to win a series on all three occasions. The Hornets are also in the midst of the worst playoff drought in franchise history, having failed to make it to the postseason in the last six seasons and they aren’t going to make it this time either. Perhaps things could finally change next season, if LaMelo is healthy and if they land Wembanyama in the draft.
