5 Players Who Can’t Be Traded This Season

Even though we were all expecting some big trades for this season, there are a handful of players that have recently signed contract extensions and are therefore ineligible to be moved right now.

Contents
  • 5. Cedi Osman
  • 4. Joe Ingles
  • 3. Eric Gordon
  • 2. Damian Lillard
  • 1. Bradley Beal

Whenever a player signs a deal, he has to wait before being eligible to be traded. While some of them can be traded starting December 15, others must wait until January 15, at least.

Moreover, Hoops Rumors noted that there is a third group of players that recently signed contract extensions don’t fall on either of those categories, but could still be traded before this year’s deadline:

  • December 20: Vince Carter (Hawks)
  • December 23: Thabo Sefolosha (Rockets)
  • December 26: Ryan Anderson (Rockets)
  • December 30: Marquese Chriss (Warriors)
  • January 6: Dwight Powell (Mavericks)
  • January 19: Caleb Martin (Hornets)
  • January 20: Jalen McDaniels (Hornets)
  • January 21: Wenyen Gabriel (Kings)
  • January 30: CJ McCollum (Trail Blazers)
  • February 3: Draymond Green (Warriors)

However, there’s still another group of players that aren’t ineligible to be moved this year, so fans will have to wait at least another season to see them elsewhere:

5. Cedi Osman

Even though Cedi Osman’s development has kind of stalled over the last season and a half, the Cleveland Cavaliers signed him to a four-year $30.8 million contract extension.

Osman has been starting for the Cavs during the post-LeBron James era and while he still has some upside, he’s not likely to be heavily pursuit by other teams. He’ll be eligible for trade on April 25.

4. Joe Ingles

Joe Ingles

Joe Ingles’ impact took a slight toll this season, as the Utah Jazz signed Bojan Bogdanovic to a multi-year deal and slid him right into the starting lineup.

However, that doesn’t mean Ingles is going anywhere any time soon, as he can’t be traded until – at least – April 21 after recently agreeing to a one-year, 14 million contract extension.

3. Eric Gordon

Eric Gordon was one of the players some people thought could be on the trade block this season after the Houston Rockets traded for Russell Westbrook, but that’s no longer the case.

Gordon recently signed a four-year, 76 million contract extension with the Houston Rockets that could have him tied to the franchise until 2024. Still, the 30-year-old could be moved as soon as the season ends.

2. Damian Lillard

Damian Lillard was also rumored to be on the trade block, with the Los Angeles Lakers looming around, but he shut the door on a potential departure by signing a max extension worth $139,888,445 over five years.

Lillard has repeatedly vowed his desire to stay with the Portland Trail Blazers throughout his entire career, but, in case both parties change their minds, he could be traded starting July 6.

Bradley Beal recently secured a huge bag of money by signing a $72 million contract extension that could keep him with the Wizards until 2023.

Beal will have a player option on his final year that will make him eligible for a four-year, $198 million deal with another team or a five-year, $266 million contract with the Wizards, or he could be traded at the end of this season.
