Damian Lillard On Winning The MVP This Season: “I Think It’s Definitely A Real Possibility.”

With the 2019-20 season around the corner, Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers are gearing up for what could be their best season yet. Several key offseason acquisitions have improved their roster to a state that many believe is capable of winning a Chip.

As for the superstar guard himself, the possibility that he wins MVP by the end of the season is certainly looking like a possibility. When posed with the idea, Lillard didn’t deny the award was within reach…

“I feel like if we’re a winning team and we’re in that top two, top three — then I think it’s definitely a real possibility,” he said, via Jamie Hudson of NBC Sports Northwest.

“Maybe because I had a good run in the bubble and I had a good run before I hurt my groin last year [right before the All-Star break]. It was pretty much the last probably 30, 35 games of the season.”

Last season, Dame averaged 30.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 8.0 assists, and 1.1 steals, on 46.3 percent shooting per game. Perhaps even more impressive was his play in the Orlando bubble, in which he won MVP en-route to leading the Blazers to the playoffs.

Portland didn’t get very far, succumbing to the eventual NBA Champs in round one, but it was respectable they got there at all considering how many injuries and obstacles they had to endure.

This upcoming season will be a test for Lillard as his squad is entering the campaign healthy and ready to go. If he can lead them to a successful season, and playoff run, it might just come with the MVP trophy as well.
