NFL reporter Charissa Thompson is a huge Michael Jordan fan, and because of that, she never wants to meet him. During an appearance on the Games With Names podcast, Thompson said she simply never wants her image of Jordan to change.
“One is Michael Jordan and I refuse to ever meet him,” Thompson said. “I don’t want to know if he has bad breath, if he is mean to me, I can’t. I need to put him on the shelf and always have him be my favorite.”
Thompson also shared how she turned down a chance to interview Jordan.
“The first opportunity I ever had to interview him, his son Jeffrey was playing for Illinois and we’re in Indianapolis,” Thompson continued. “They were like, ‘You need you to go up to the suite and interview Michael Jordan.’ And I was like, ‘I can’t do it.’ Larry Bird was with him too and I was like, ‘I can’t do it.’ And they’re like, ‘What do you mean you can’t do it?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t want to meet him.’ I just love him so much.”
Thompson revealed she would also try to catch a glimpse of Jordan at his camp when she was younger.
“He would host a basketball camp and my guy friends that worked the valet there would call me when the black Range Rover pulled up,” Thompson stated. “I was like, ‘Oh my god he’s there.’ And I would look around in the bushes like a psycho, just wanting to catch a glimpse of Michael Jordan.”
It is often said that you should never meet your heroes, and Thompson certainly lives by that rule. When you consider the fact that Jordan has a reputation for not exactly being the nicest guy around, it was probably a wise decision to stay away and maintain that perfect image she has of him in her mind.
Thompson was born in 1982 and it’s not a surprise that a sports enthusiast like her ended up becoming a Jordan fanatic. She grew up watching him dominate in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls, as he went on to win six titles, six Finals MVPs, and five MVPs.
