  • Damian Lillard wants to be traded to the Miami Heat
  • During an Instagram Live, a fan asked him to fix his beanie if he’d be traded to the Heat by October 2nd
  • Lillard did adjust his beanie after that

Damian Lillard has gone viral once again following his actions on his recent Instagram Live. A fan had asked Lillard in the comments, to fix his beanie if he was going to be a member of the Miami Heat by October 2nd, the date by which he reportedly will be moved, and the seven-time All-Star did just that.

Whether that was intentional or not, it is crystal clear that Lillard wants to be in Miami. He has little say in the matter, though, as he lost basically all his leverage after agreeing to an extension with the Portland Trail Blazers last year.

Lillard is now under contract through the 2026-27 season, after which he has a player option for 2027-28. The Trail Blazers are going to accept the best offer they can get, whether it be from Miami or elsewhere. If recent reports are to be believed, it actually seems to be getting less likelier by the day that Lillard would be traded to the Heat.

The Miami Heat Won’t Give Up All Their Assets For Damian Lillard

The Heat seem to have been intent on giving up the bare minimum to land Lillard, as he had made it clear he only wanted to join them. It deterred other teams from entering the mix, but multiple reports have now claimed that teams have registered a serious interest in the 33-year-old.

Despite the growing competition, the Heat aren’t interested in offering all seven of their assets for Lillard.

“The Heat has as many as seven valuable assets to offer Portland in a trade for guard Damian Lillard.”

“That list includes as many as three tradable first-round picks, Tyler Herro, Nikola Jovic, rookie first-round pick Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Caleb Martin.”

“But the Heat isn’t believed to be offering even close to all seven of those assets.”

If the Heat choose to stubbornly refuse to trade all their assets, then it seems they can kiss their chances of landing Lillard goodbye. It was fine to do so when they had no competition, but once a market starts to develop for Lillard, you either pay up or see him go elsewhere.

Lillard’s Past Instagram Activities On The Heat

We can’t be absolutely certain if Lillard was trying to convey any sort of message with the beanie, but it wouldn’t be the first time he used Instagram for it. Previously, Lillard had posted and deleted an Instagram Story about his future with Miami.

The story referred to him as a future Heat legend, and you can’t get more brazen than that. Prior to that, Lillard fueled trade speculation to the Heat with a controversial Instagram story, which read that Miami was waiting for him.

It will be very interesting to see how he would react if he does get traded to another team. Will Lillard be a professional and play, or will he demand that they trade him to the Heat?

No one can know for certain, but if Lillard gets traded to a contender and refuses to play, it’d be a bad look. Absolutely no one blamed him for requesting a trade from the Trail Blazers, as it was clear they were not going to compete for a title.

A player of his caliber, who averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game last season, deserves to be on a contending team, especially after being so loyal to Portland for so long. But, if he starts to cause problems on a contender just because he wants to be in Miami, it’s not going to sit well with many in the basketball world.
