Curry was speaking to Today, where he was asked many questions. One of the questions was about the greatest shooter in league history when he doesn’t include himself. The four-time champions elected to go with Ray Allen instead of any active player.
“I’d say Ray Allen. I think his form, his dedication to his craft, hit big shots in his career.”
Allen was widely considered the greatest shooter the league had ever seen before Curry’s emergence. At least Ray still has the honor of hitting arguably the biggest three-pointer in league history with his incredible shot in the 2013 Finals against the Spurs.
Ray Allen Was Prepared For The Biggest Shot Of His Career
There’s a reason Curry easily named Allen when thinking of the greatest shooter in league history. He was one of the first All-Star level players to use his three-pointer as a primary weapon in his arsenal. He did this through years and years of preparation, as he told Fadeaway World during a conversation in May.
“The saying is, people always talk about luck. If you’re lucky, you’ve already been good. Luck is when opportunity meets the prepared. The ball bounces your way and you’re able to receive it because you’re ready to receive it. You got people in the position to do their jobs. That’s the position I was in at that moment to take that shot. But it was a shot that I was prepared for, it was a shot that I trained for, it was a moment that if we continue to do the things we need to do, no matter what happens in the game.”
Ray was more than just a shooter, becoming a two-time champion with the Celtics and Heat. He averaged 18.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 1,300 regular-season games over 18 seasons in the NBA.
