In what comes as a comment that would spark a massive debate, former NBA champion Kevin Garnett hailed LeBron James as the greatest scorer of all time, placing him over the likes of Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan.

“To average 30, this is what makes him go on top of the list to me. This s***t right here. If we talking about shot-making, we talking about ability and skill, and he’s in all of those conversations. But now, you’re doing some s**t where the greatest couldn’t do it.”

He further added:

“Wilt couldn’t do this. MJ couldn’t do this. 38! Man, 38 in the league is really like 45. I’m being dead a**. I’m just keeping it real. No emotion… nothing. This is just a spade of a spade.

When asked by Pierce if James was indeed the greatest scorer ever:

“Yeah, the numbers say it. The f*** yeah, the f***, yeah.”

[Starts 5:00 onwards]

Surely, this is lavish praise from two of the greatest players who had quite the history with the now-Lakers superstar.

Both KG and Pierce have had 42 and 47 career wins against James in their clashes against each other, so as far as mutual respect goes, the ‘Big Ticket’ did not mince words.

That said, a closer look at the stats suggests why Jordan indeed trumps James when it comes to being the better scorer. While LeBron James at 38 is the GOAT of longevity, which has played a part in getting him on top of the hill as the NBA’s leading scorer surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan still gets the better of the forward as the more prolific scorer in league history.

1. Michael Jordan Had A Better PPG Than LeBron James In Both The Regular Season And The Playoffs

One of our features sheds light on the comparison of the numbers between the two greats, highlighting why the Chicago Bulls legend is a better scorer.

The below table illustrates how Jordan was a better scorer than James in both the regular season and playoffs.

While there is no doubt that James, at 38, continues to be a prolific scorer, MJ was more consistent and his numbers rarely dwindled. He was a better scorer by the game in comparison to the four-time NBA champion.

2. Michael Jordan Has More Scoring Titles Than LeBron James

To further make our case, Jordan won 10 scoring titles over the course of his decorated career, while James has one to his credit, which he won in 2008.

In the 15 years he played in the NBA, the Bulls icon won straight scoring titles from 1986-93. and then three more between 1996 and 1998.

3. LeBron James Isn’t Among The Top 5 Players With The Most Points In A Single Game

Focusing on the most points in a single game, James is not among the top five players with the most points in a single game. Here’s a quick glance at who the top five are:

And while neither Jordan nor James is on the list, it should be noted that the former has more points than James in a single game.

MJ scored 69 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1990, while the Lakers star scored 61 against the Charlotte Bobcats in 2014.

Thereby, making our case that while James’ longevity in the league is commendable and was instrumental in his climb to the all-time scoring summit, he’s still not the greatest scorer of all time in comparison to Jordan, who remains undisputed.

All Eyes Will Be On LeBron James As He Enters His 21st Year In The NBA

With LeBron James proclaiming that he will enter his 21st year in the NBA, he will be the cynosure of all eyes as he and the Lakers stake their claim for their second championship in as many as five seasons.

James has four titles to his name, and one of them is with LA, but for him truly have a seat at the table of Lakers greats, there’s perhaps one more championship that he will need to hand the franchise.

Only time will tell if the leading scorer in NBA history can lead a decorated franchise to hoist the silverware.
