New York Knicks Set To Pursue Joel Embiid After Another Disappointing Philadelphia 76ers Season

The New York Knicks have set their sights on Joel Embiid, and they will try to cash in on the Philadelphia 76ers' bad season.

The New York Knicks lost in the second round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs against the Miami Heat, and even after that defeat, many are convinced the future is bright for this team.

With good decisions, they can become a top-3 team in the Eastern Conference, and it seems like they identified a big target a while ago. According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, the 2023 NBA MVP is on their radar.

“Been told since midseason that Joel Embiid is the guy to watch for the Knicks, and Philly’s playoff flame out only intensified that belief,” Bondy quote-tweeted a report suggesting James Harden is set to re-join the Houston Rockets this offseason.

The departure of Harden could open the door for Embiid to leave the Sixers. The big man has failed to have success in the playoffs, and not even Ben Simmons or Harden could help him get past the second round of the postseason.

This potential exit could start a series of reactions that ultimately end with Embiid leaving the team that originally drafted him to the NBA. He has tried hard to take his team to the promised land, but after many years of failures, it would be good for Joel to look for a new challenge.

Joel Embiid Might Not Be On The Best Terms With Philadelphia Right Now

Another thing the Knicks have in their favor is that Embiid was allegedly unhappy with Doc Rivers’ departure from the team since they had a very close relationship. James Harden was considered the driving force behind this decision, which could fracture his relationship with Embiid.

The Sixers have a lot of work to do this offseason if they want to bounce back next season. However, if they see Embiid go, it would be the final proof that the process has been a total failure for this squad. Time will tell how this situation plays out, but the Sixers are in a complex position right now.
