Ja Morant has been one of the most recurrent topics in the NBA in the last week. The Memphis Grizzlies’ young star was seen on a new Instagram Live holding a gun a couple of months after he was already suspended by his team.
Morant is once again under fire after flashing an even bigger gun on Instagram Live, which also led the Grizzlies to suspend him from all team activities until further notice. Everybody has had something to say about this and recently, rapper Lil Wayne gave an interesting take on this.
“The best I could do is remember when I was younger and my homies, my squad, my n**gas around me, at the age where they don’t have money,” he said. “I’m the one with the money, and I don’t even know how much money I’ll end up with, but I’m the one with some money in my pocket. I know I got a bright future. My homies, they ain’t on a payroll. They my homies — they live good when they with me.”
“So if I was going through something at that point in time, something public like what slime going through, I could imagine the rebellious attitude I would have if my homies is egging that attitude on.”
Tunechi added that given Morant’s background, it’s easy to see why he lost control over his actions and ended up doing something that caused him to get suspended.
“He come from like a town with 3,000 people. Like, what? What y’all expect? Y’all gave him $200 million,” the Young Money head honcho stated. “You expect him to be responsible? Now we tripping. That’s magic. ‘Cause I could tell you now, I come from a real well-raised, beautiful mother… My mama would bust her a** to make sure everything around me was nice, and I still was a knucklehead. I shot myself. And that young man? I could imagine if I came from a f**king place with 3,000 people and I became who I am.”
What Wayne is saying makes a lot of sense, but it’s also true that Ja already went through this situation. He said he went to counseling and vowed to be better, but the incident happened again, and the only one responsible for that is him.
He should know he’s looked after by a lot of people and his behavior has an impact on them. Ja is one of the most talented players in the league, and things couldn’t be better for him and the Memphis Grizzlies before the start of his controversies.
Ja Morant Has Found Support In Many People Recently
Even amid the bad moments, Morant has seen people showing up for him. Stephen Jackson compared his situation to other people, calling out the NBA for its double standard. JJ Redick also compared Morant to politicians, criticizing them for holding guns and encouraging people to own firearms and not suffering the consequences of that.
Ja is set to keep competing, but it remains to be seen when he will return to the court. The 2022 MIP award winner has a lot of talent, but if he can keep it together off the court, his career can be finished even before he reaches his peak.
