Following a terrific first season with the Sacramento Kings, Mike Brown has gotten things back on track for the Californians, leading them to the NBA playoffs for the first time in 16 years.

This incredible campaign, where they posted a 48-34 record, helped Brown earn the praise of his colleagues, winning a major distinction for his remarkable job with the Kings.

“After orchestrating one of the most dramatic turnarounds in the league in years and ending a 16-year playoff absence, Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown has been voted the National Basketball Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year, sources told ESPN on Thursday.”

Brown wins the award after Phoenix Suns’ Monty Williams took it home for the past two seasons after posting incredible campaigns with the Arizonian team. Other coaches like Milwaukee’s Mike Budenholzer, Oklahoma City’s Mark Daigneault, Boston’s Joe Mazzulla, and New York’s Tom Thibodeau also received votes, but ultimately, Brown was the one getting this huge honor.

At the beginning of the season, the Kings didn’t have big expectations for this campaign, but things changed over time, with Brown making the adjustments and taking this team from the bottom of the standings to a top-3 finish. Led by De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, a terrific duo this season, the Kings are now in the postseason for the first time since 2006.

Steve Kerr Reflects On Facing Mike Brown In The 2023 NBA Playoffs

Now, the Kings are getting ready to face the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs. Going against the current NBA champions isn’t easy, but the Kings aren’t afraid of anybody. They know that having Brown with them gives them an edge, as he worked under Steve Kerr on the Dubs.

Speaking of his former assistant coach, Kerr gave his flowers to Brown, crediting him for creating the championship culture they have right now. He was there for six years and won three championships, earning a lot of love and respect from Warriors fans and players.

Now, the situation is different, as Brown will try to beat his former team and make a statement in these playoffs, which look like an open race.
