The Sacramento Kings were a laughing stock for well over a decade but everything has changed for them in this magical 2022-23 season.

They have been so good, that Kevin Garnett compared their star duo of De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis to John Stockton and Karl Malone, for their proficiency at running the pick-and-roll.

“Are they the new Stockton-Malone?” Garnett asked Matt Barnes on the latest episode of his Ticket and the Truth podcast. “There’s no two better. We could say James (Harden) and Joel (Embiid), right? Not like this though.”

(starts at 21:32 mark):

Stockton and Malone had seemingly perfected the pick-and-roll, which helped them have so much success in the league for so many years. Fox and Sabonis have been the best at it this year and that has made the Kings the best offense in the league, with an offensive rating of 119.0, as per the NBA.

They both made the All-Star team this year, with Fox averaging 25.2 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 6.1 APG, and 1.2 SPG while Sabonis has been putting up 19.2 PPG, a league-leading 12.4 RPG, and 7.2 APG. They have led the Kings to a 47-31 record and have all but secured a spot in the top three in the Western Conference.

Domantas Sabonis Explained Why The Kings Have The Best Offense In The Clutch

We have seen teams over the years who seemingly score at will for much of the game, but they can’t get it done in high-pressure situations. That’s certainly not the case for the Kings, who have proven to be one of the most clutch teams this season.

When Sabonis was asked after a win over the New York Knicks about what makes the Kings so great in the clutch, he hilariously said they just give the ball to Fox. He has been terrific this season in the clutch and leads the NBA with 536 points in the fourth quarter, as per StatMuse. The Kings still have a lot of doubters but as long as Fox and Sabonis continue to dominate, they’d fancy their chances against anybody.

Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
