The Minnesota Timberwolves received a double-whammy with Rudy Gobert set to miss the play-in game against the Los Angeles Lakers at the Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday.

The news comes after the center’s punch-up with Kyle Anderson during the Wolves’ final regular season game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

“Gobert will serve a one-game suspension and is expected to return if the Wolves lose to the Lakers and play another play-in game, or advance into the Western Conference playoffs, sources said,” he tweeted.

With this, the side will miss Gobert and forward Jaden McDaniels, who was ruled out of the clash after punching his right hand into the wall and fracturing it. The news was reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Earlier, the big man was sent home after he took a swing at Anderson during a team huddle shortly before halftime.

“We made the decision to send Rudy Gobert home after the incident in the second quarter. His behavior on the bench was unacceptable and we will handle the situation internally,” Timberwolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly told The Athletic.

The absence of Gobert will surely hurt the Wolves who are placed eighth in the West with a 42-40 record. While the win against the Pelicans put them in the hunt for a playoff berth, the off-court drama now puts them in the backseat as they go up against a buoyed Lakers side.

Draymond Green Takes A Shot At Rudy Gobert

Earlier, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green didn’t miss the beat to dish it out to Rudy Gobert after the latter’s actions.

The former NBA champion pulled up one of the center’s old tweets that spoke about insecurity and used it against the Wolves star. “Insecurity is always loud,” he wrote.

The Wolves will no doubt be on the back foot with Gobert set to serve a one-game suspension, and should the side be outplayed by the Lakers, then the skirmish against the Pelicans would very well have been his last for the 2022-23 season.
