LeBron James Should Have Won At Least 8 MVP Awards, Says NBA Analyst

LeBron James has been playing at a supremely high level for nearly two decades now but for all his dominance, the King has only won four MVP awards.

When discussing the MVP award, The Athletic’s Tony Jones stated that voter fatigue definitely plays a factor and pointed to it being the reason why James only won it four times.

“I agree voter fatigue shouldn’t occur, but it for sure does,” Jones said. “There’s no way on God’s Green Earth that LeBron James should have only four MVP awards. He should have at least eight”

Jones also stated here that both Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan should have won more MVP awards as well. While eight might be a bit much for LeBron, we also agree with Jones that he should have won more than four. There were definitely a few seasons where he was snubbed and many would point to 2018 as one of the years he should have won it, but the award went to James Harden.

LeBron finished second and his biggest accomplishment that campaign, on an individual level, was making the All-NBA First Team for the 11th straight season. While James is now very likely to end his career with just four MVP awards, there is no doubt that he does take the crown of MVP for the 2010s, as he dominated the decade.

LeBron James Seemed To Be Entering The MVP Conversation This Season Too

While any talk regarding LeBron being in the MVP conversation at this point would be ridiculous, there was a time when it looked like he could enter the race. From his birthday on the 30th of December to when he became the all-time scoring leader on the 7th of February against the Oklahoma City Thunder, James was averaging 33.9 PPG, 9.1 RPG, and 7.8 APG while shooting 52.2% from the field.

During that ridiculous stretch, JJ Redick said LeBron could enter the MVP race if the Lakers finish with a top 5 seed. His former teammate Tristan Thompson, meanwhile, said LeBron should be in the MVP conversation if the Lakers get the sixth or seventh seed. Unfortunately, LeBron hasn’t been able to stay healthy after that historic night and the Lakers aren’t going to climb that high in the standings either, so he isn’t even going to come close to winning the award.
