LeBron James has many weapons up his sleeves which he has used throughout his career to be better than his opponents. Be it his scoring ability, nuclear athleticism, or insane passing ability, LeBron is arguably one of the most complete players to ever play in the NBA.

But another thing that makes LeBron James better than his competition is his out-of-the-world longevity. James is currently playing the 20th season of his NBA season and is already 38 years old. However, the King is still one of the best players in the NBA.

So much so that he has almost single-handedly carried the Los Angeles Lakers this season. Unfortunately, due to the Lakers’ poor record, the debate about James being in the MVP conversation is not catching much fire so far this season.

JJ Redick Points Out How LeBron James Can Be In The MVP Race

LeBron James is currently averaging 29.8 PPG, 8.4 RPG, and 7.0 APG this season. These are certainly MVP-like numbers. But as we mentioned earlier, the Lakers currently have a poor record of 20-25, which places the team in the 13th spot in the Western Conference table.

NBA analyst JJ Redick recently explained how James might enter the MVP race this season, and his assessment was around the Lakers finishing around the 5th spot in the West by the end of the season.

“Let’s paint a picture of a lot of what-ifs. What if they do make a couple of trades? What if they do end up in the top 5 in the Western Conference? All of a sudden, we’ve got to add another name to the MVP conversation, which is very deep right now. There’s a lot of people in that conversation. When the season started, Bron [James] was at +2200 for MVP. He’s right now at 1400. … If some stars align [and] the Lakers end up with the top 5 seed in the Western Conference, I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility.”

This is certainly a long shot, but if what Redick said becomes a reality and LeBron James indeed ends up winning the MVP award, it will be one of the greatest achievements in the history of the NBA. On top of that, he will enter the list of the 10 oldest players to win the MVP award and take the top spot on it.
