NBA Analyst Explains Why The Los Angeles Lakers Should Have Traded Anthony Davis

This analyst believes the Lakers should have moved Anthony Davis at the peak of his value.

Anthony Davis is one of the best players in the league this year, and he has been dominant on both ends of the floor this season for the Los Angeles Lakers. Currently, Anthony Davis is averaging 27.4 PPG, 12.1 RPG, and 2.6 APG.

There is no doubt that Anthony Davis has looked like an MVP for the Los Angeles Lakers. However, it has recently been reported that he may have a fairly serious foot injury.

NBA analyst Brad Bodkin of CBS Sports revealed his opinion that the Los Angeles Lakers should have traded Anthony Davis while he was on his MVP-like run. He claimed that there’s a chance that Anthony Davis will “never be as valuable” as he was over these last few weeks.

I’m not an insider. I don’t have any idea if the Lakers actually did reach out about trading Davis during his sky-high stretch. I doubt it. My guess is something would’ve been reported. News like that doesn’t stay under wraps these days. Besides that, I don’t know what the Lakers could’ve gotten for Davis. I’m certainly not the only one who questions his ability to stay healthy. Maybe his value wasn’t as high as I thought, even when he was the best player in the league for a moment.

But I’m betting if the Lakers were properly motivated, a good, solid deal that could’ve really set them back up for the post-LeBron era could’ve been achieved. Then they could’ve traded LeBron after the season when he becomes eligible. Put that together with the 2027 and 2029 picks, and you’re in a pretty good spot. You got your one title out of Davis and LeBron and still managed to recoup some value.

Now? Davis is hurt. As was always going to be the case. The buzz of his short-lived healthy dominance has again been replaced by the reality of his fragility, and he’ll be 30 in March and in a walk year next season making $40 million, further complicating his market moving forward. Chances are, Davis will never be as valuable as he was a month or even a few weeks ago.

With Anthony Davis, durability is always going to be a concern. He has had a lengthy injury history, throughout his career, and it is clear that he will miss at least a few games every season. With that being said, it is hard to see the Los Angeles Lakers trading Anthony Davis, as when valuable he is an elite player.

The Los Angeles Lakers May Not Make A Trade After Anthony Davis Injury

Prior to the Anthony Davis injury, the Los Angeles Lakers were heavily mentioned in trade rumors. However, it seems as though the situation may have changed, as the Los Angeles Lakers have recently de-prioritized making a trade.

“The trade completion in Lakerland has realistically changed this weekend irrespective of the Pistons’ Bogdanovic plans. Losing Anthony Davis indefinitely to a foot injury, suffered in Friday’s win over Denver, means that the Lakers’ playoff hopes might well be snuffed out already since they are 12-16 in the loaded West even with Davis playing as well as he ever has, averaging 27.4 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game on while shooting a robust 59.3% from the field. Passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s All-Time leading scorer thus might be the only thing LeBron James, currently 766 points away from the top spot, has left to play for in his 20th season.”

It is easy to see why the Los Angeles Lakers wouldn’t want to make a trade at this moment. They can wait it out, and see how the Los Angeles Lakers do before making a trade right at the deadline.

It remains to be seen how well the Los Angeles Lakers will do for the rest of the season. The responsibility of carrying the team has now shifted back to LeBron James, who has been doing a good job of beating Father Time. Hopefully, the superstar can keep the Los Angeles Lakers afloat while Anthony Davis gets healthy, and perhaps they can still make the playoffs this year.
