Michael Jordan’s popularity and influence transcends that of almost everyone who has ever stepped foot in the NBA. MJ’s time with the Chicago Bulls helped him in gaining a lot of accolades for his amazing career.
During that time, Mike won everything that you’d expect the best player in the world to win. On top of that, Jordan’s achievements are regarded so highly among fans that to this day, he is considered as the GOAT of basketball.
Over the years, many cases have been presented to dethrone his position as the GOAT, but none have come close to doing so, apart from one. We are talking about none other than ‘The Chosen One’ LeBron James.
Even before entering the league, James was touted as the next big thing in the NBA. He possessed an amazing skill set and has been a joy to watch since his first game in the league.
There has been a long debate over whether James can become the GOAT over Mike or not. But most believe, including Magic Johnson, that as good as LBJ is, MJ is still the best player to ever play in the league.
LeBron James Shared A Story About Michael Jordan Being His Superhero
While there will always be comparisons between MJ and LBJ, the fact remains the latter grew up during the time when Mike was at his best. So like millions of others, James was also a fan of Michael Jordan.
It became even clearer in 2012 when LeBron revealed that the screensaver of his phone was a photoshopped picture of Michael Jordan defending him.
Via Bleacher Report:
He revealed on Wednesday that the screensaver of his phone is a Photoshop image of himself handling the ball while guarded by Michael Jordan in his prime. “Jordan was my superhero growing up,” James said. “He was the guy I feel helped me get to where I am today. As a competitor, who would not want to go against the best? That’s like asking [Tom] Brady would he want to go against Montana in the fourth quarter.
At the time, LeBron was a part of the Miami Heat and was dominating the league. He also won the first two rings of his career in Miami, which began a realistic debate between the two superstars. Despite that, there’s still a Hall of Famer career that separates Mike and LeBron.
Anyway, Bron is currently with the Los Angeles Lakers, and even at the age of 37, he is looking to add more rings to his resume. He currently has four rings to his name, but can he win the fifth ring of his illustrious career? We will find out in the future.
