When considering the best duos in the NBA, you have to include Steph Curry and Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors, who have won three championships together over the past eight years.

As close as they are on the court, they hold a closer bond off the court as good friends. It’s a friendship that, according to Klay, took a few years to take off.

“We really didn’t get to know each other until about our third year in the league,” Thompson said, via NBA on ESPN. “Both very quiet. And I think this trip with USA Basketball to Spain, we played a lot of golf, we drank some sangria in Barcelona. I think he’ll say the same, but that summer of 2014 kind of glued us together and we just became good friends after that. There’s a lot of things we do on the court that just seems to be in sync with each other. We don’t even think about it, it’s just like second nature.”

Klay has enjoyed almost unprecedented prosperity with the Warriors. Since 2015, the guy has dominated the league with Steph and Draymond. They’ve made the Warriors one of the most attractive free-agent destinations on the market.

Today, they are widely celebrated for being a modern-day dynasty.

“It’s pretty cool. It’s rare to have continuity like that in pro sports, so I don’t take it for granted. It inspires me to — we got to get one more [championship], maybe two. We got to. Like the modern-day Spurs, you know? Manu [Ginóbili], Tony [Parker], and Tim [Duncan] played with each other their whole careers and I would like to do the same with Steph and Dray.”

For the Warriors, it all starts with Steph and Klay. The Splash Bros help open things up for everyone else and can pour in a lot of points in a short period of time.

So despite the fact that things took a while to get going, the friendship between Thompson and Curry is as strong as it has ever been and will continue to set the tone for the rest of the team.
