Stephen Curry is one of the most accomplished point guards in the history of the game. There’s no doubt that he has won a large number of awards during his career: he is a multiple-time MVP, multiple-time scoring champion, and has won 3 championships with the Golden State Warriors.
While it is clear that Stephen Curry is an all-time great that has cemented his place in NBA history, there has been a lot of noise about the one award that his resume is missing: the Finals MVP. Some people, like Max Kellerman, believe that Stephen Curry’s legacy would be enhanced if he were to win the award this year:
Listen, Steph Curry is playing on a team where Klay is coming off a catastrophic injury, he’s getting older, Dray’s getting older. Steph’s coming off an injury. KD’s not there anymore.
What there seems to be to me, a lot on the line for Steph and his legacy… When I say that, I think of both outcomes. If he doesn’t get it done, is his legacy going to get worse? No… but now compare it to what he does. What if the Warriors go all the way this year, and Steph wins Finals MVP. It gets enhanced. It does. There’s a lot on the line.
Steve Kerr has recently dismissed the idea that Stephen Curry never winning a Finals MVP should be a serious talking point, pointing out all the things that Curry managed to accomplish while claiming that “it’s just something to talk about”.
“It’s just something to talk about. It’s not really a thing."

Can you imagine when Steph came out of Davidson. If you said “In 12 years, you’re gonna be a two-time MVP, you’re gonna have three rings, you’re gonna be a 9-time All-Star, a future Hall of Famer, you’re gonna lead the NBA in scoring. But you will not have a Finals MVP.”
You think he would’ve gone “Man I don’t want that. What a failure”. What are even talking about… That’s just the last box he hasn’t checked maybe. It’s just something to talk about, it’s not really a thing.
There is no doubt that Stephen Curry is a fantastic player, and his influence on the game is absolutely immense. He brought around the 3PT revolution and inspired many around the globe to watch basketball.
It is clear that even without a Finals MVP, Stephen Curry has been wildly successful in the league. Perhaps this is the year he gets the award, but even if he doesn’t, he will forever be known as the face of the Golden State Warriors dynasty.
