Marcus Smart Makes Inspiring Statement After Completing 4-0 Sweep: “I’d Walk Into A Back Alley Any Day With Our Guys.”

After securing a shocking 4-0 sweep over the Nets this week, Celtics guard Marcus Smart showed some love to his teammates ahead of Round 2.

His statement, which was posted on Twitter, included a couple of photos from the series that show how united the Cs really are after the dominant performance.

I’d walk into a back alley any day with our guys. As long as Batman leads the way. That was fun. Let’s do it again soon.

Smart, 28, is having one heck of a season in Boston. He led the Celtics on the defensive end for 71 games and even took home the Defensive Player of the Year award for his efforts on that end of the floor.

“I’ve always said that without those naysayers, the doubters, what we like to call haters, I wouldn’t be able to go out there and do what I do,” said Smart after being named DPOY. “They inspire me to continue to strive to be the greatest I can be at what I do. So, what I have to say to them is thank you. Keep it up.”

Since being drafted in 2014, Smart has been the type of player who inspires his team and brings out the very best in his teammates. He also holds others (even the team’s stars) accountable for their mistakes and miscalculations.

The result has been a Celtics team that has risen from the ashes of dysfunction. After starting as a .500 team, the Cs figured things out by January and played like a completely different squad in the months that followed.

Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Robert Williams, Al Horford, and Daniel Theis came together to secure a 2nd place finish for Boston.

In the aftermath of sweeping the KD-led Nets, they are looking like a true contender for the title.

They have a long way to go and the job is not close to finished. But with the way this team is rolling right now, it’s okay to feel good about their chances of playing into June.
