The Los Angeles Lakers are well on their way to their first Conference Finals since the 2020 bubble, but that doesn’t mean all is perfect for the 17x champions. Late in the first quarter, as the Lakers were just beginning their latest match against the Warriors, one incident went viral between Anthony Davis and head coach Darvin Ham.

The clip features Davis on the sidelines as he’s checking out of the game. He appears to get held up in some kind of argument with Darvin Ham before finally moving on to the bench.

We don’t know what the players were arguing about, but fans were quick to come up with their own theories on what might have been happening.

Ham took over for Frank Vogel after he was dismissed as head coach. Since taking the reigns, the Lakers have had plenty of ups and downs, but Ham has always been valued as a leader for this group.

Whatever was happening between Ham and Davis, if anything at all, was probably just the result of a high-tension playoff game. Still, if it does hint at a more serious disconnect, it could come back to hurt the Lakers in a huge way.

Can AD Stay Consistent Throughout These Playoffs?

An unfortunate theme for Anthony Davis this postseason has been his extremely inconsistent play. One game to the next, you have no clue which version of Davis you’re getting, and that’s not acceptable if you’re the Lakers.

In truth, it falls partly on Ham to wake Davis up and put him in a position where he can dominate every single night.

“It’s hard for me to recall a superstar in this game that has such extremes,” said Jay Williams. “There are times when I watch AD, I’m like, your ceiling is on the level of Jokic or Embiid, maybe better. But your floor is JaVale McGee.”

There is no question that Anthony Davis is one of the best players in the world when healthy, but the Lakers also need him locked into the game-plan if they want to go all the way.

So far, Lakers fans don’t have anything to worry about on that front, but it’s important to remember that any situation can change on a dime with a single win or loss.
