Bradley Beal was always going to be a sought-after commodity this offseason after the Washington Wizards endured yet another disappointing season.
The franchise had been somewhat hesitant to trade Beal in the past but it appears their stance has finally changed. Bleacher Report’s NBA insider Chris Haynes is reporting that they have given their star guard permission to speak with teams he’d want to be traded to.
“The Washington Wizards have granted star Bradley Beal and his representatives permission to speak with teams the three-time All-Star has interest in being traded to, league sources tell B/R.”
“Beal and the Wizards have agreed to work together on finding the guard a new home should the franchise choose to embark on a rebuild. Beal has not requested a trade, sources say.”
Haynes is reporting that Beal would only be interested in going to teams that can contend and as he has a no-trade clause, he can veto any move he isn’t too keen on.
Beal is coming off a good 2022-23 campaign in which he averaged 23.2 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 5.4 APG, 0.9 SPG, and 0.7 BPG. He’d be a fine addition to most teams but there are certainly some issues that come with making a move for him as well.
First of all, Beal has had injury issues which have led to him playing a combined 90 games in the last two seasons. He also just signed a five-year, $251 million supermax contract last year and that’s a big commitment for any team to take on, considering the injury issues and the fact that he’ll turn 30 later this month.
There Is Plenty Of Interest Around The League For Bradley Beal
Despite those concerns, there is a ton of interest for Beal around the league. NBA insider Shams Charania had reported that the Milwaukee Bucks and the Miami Heat would be prominent suitors for him if he was on the market.
Charania also reported that the Sacramento Kings have had talks with the Wizards on a potential trade and another report stated that the New York Knicks have internally discussed a trade for Beal. It certainly looks like he’s going to be spoilt for choice but considering he has not handed in a trade request, staying with the team can’t be ruled out as a possibility just yet.
