The 2023 offseason is certainly going to be a pivotal one for the Golden State Warriors as they have some very big decisions to make. They have already made one of them by agreeing to a deal with Mike Dunleavy to be their new GM and one of his first tasks might well be to find a way to keep Draymond Green on the team.

Green has a $27.6 million player option for next season and NBA insider Marc Spears says the organization is expecting him to opt out of it.

“The Warriors expect Draymond Green to opt out of the final year of his $26 million contract, I’m being told,” Spears said on NBA Today. “But Joe Lacob, Dunleavy, the Warriors they are going to do everything in their power, if he does as expected, to bring him back.”

A report had surfaced not long after the Warriors were eliminated from the playoffs that they will discuss a multi-year contract with Green this summer. The question is how much money is Green looking at here? It was reported last year that he wanted a max contract extension but that might be a bit too much for Golden State.

Still, it appears they really do want Draymond back and he is coming off a solid campaign too, as he averaged 8.5 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 6.8 APG, 1.0 SPG, and 0.8 BPG. He was particularly excellent on the defensive end and his efforts were rewarded with a spot on the All-Defensive Second Team.

JJ Redick Believes The Warriors Can’t Contend For Championships Without Draymond Green

Green’s situation will certainly be one to monitor and if he does end up leaving, then JJ Redick thinks the Warriors won’t be competing for titles. Draymond tends to be the butt of jokes for his triple-singles, but there is no denying that he brings great value to the Warriors with his defense and playmaking.

He was one of the few bright spots on defense for them this past season and without him, they would collapse on that end of the floor. Head coach Steve Kerr knows that too, as he stated last month that if Green doesn’t come back, then they’re not a championship contender.
