Bronny James is going to be a college superstar in the one season everyone expects him to spend with the USC Tigers. Even with his playing future under question, the USC campus went crazy at Bronny appearing with the squad at the college’s iconic ‘Midnight Madness’.

‘Midnight Madness’ has become a tradition in most D1 powerhouse schools, as the basketball team that represents the campus gets introduced to the school and shows off their skills. It’s essentially a big social gathering but has become a cherished part of the NCAA world.

Bronny is unlikely to be available for team selection to start the season, recovering from heart surgery after his cardiac arrest over the summer. He did look to be in great spirits in his introduction, doing the 2000s dance step known as the ‘dougie’, popularized to many NBA fans by a young John Wall.

LeBron James Provided A Crucial Update On Bronny’s Future

LeBron James has had to deal with an incredibly complicated situation over this summer. Not only is he trying to build towards another championship-winning season in the NBA, he has to be there for his son who suffered a cardiac arrest at age 18 and has undergone major surgery. He’s always been an admirable dad and gave the world an update on Bronny;’s prospects of playing this season during Lakers media day

“Bronny is doing extremely well. He has begun his rehab process to get back on the floor this season with USC. He had successful surgery and he’s up and up. It’s definitely a whirlwind of emotions for our family this summer but the best thing we have is each other. And we stuck behind each other and gave Bronny strength throughout the whole process. We are happy to see where he is today and look forward to seeing what his future still has in store for him.”

Bronny was a five-star recruit for the school and they’ll really want him to hit the court at some point this season. Tigers’ teammate Vince Iwuchukwu suffered a similar situation last season but managed to suit up for the Tigers before the season ended. He’s still on the squad, but everyone knows that Bronny was planning to be in the NBA next season.

Will Bronny James Declare For The 2024 NBA Draft?

If Bronny doesn’t get playing time with the Tigers this season, declaring for the draft could be a risk. Bronny was expected to be a late first-round pick at worst and a lottery pick at best based on his talent. But with the question mark of heart disease hanging over his head, NBA teams may be a little careful about approaching him.

If he doesn’t play, teams will have even more reason to drop him on their draft boards. Naturally, some players would jump him in value by playing the season. But his health concerns and lack of NCAA experience could hurt him if he declares immediately after this season.

Regardless of anything, Bronny will be in the NBA. He may have the chance to be a higher pick if he declares in 2025, but it’s hard to imagine that one of the 30 NBA teams won’t draft Bronny on the off-chance LeBron comes to their squad. He’ll be in the NBA regardless of when he declares for the Draft, but it’ll be fascinating to see how he tackles this decision.
