Bronny James is looking to follow in the footsteps of his father and make it to the NBA. But unlike his dad, he is going to go play college basketball to polish his game and get him ready for the NBA. But one draft expert doesn’t believe that Bronny is going to be a lottery pick like his father.

Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman spoke about the 2024 NBA Draft class and noted that he doesn’t see Bronny James as a lottery pick. He noted that Bronny’s height, style of play, and player profile make him more suited to be a late first-round pick unless he is able to take a massive step ahead while at USC.

“I know it’s important we talk about him… I like Bronny, I think he’s going to be on my first-round board. 6’3 is a problem for a non-creator. I think he’s a 3-&-D guy but he’s more of a combo guard 3-&-D. He’s not like a wing. I know he has some highlights in transition, but he’s not a big-time asset”.

“I love his shooting, I love his cerebral, he’s smart like his dad. I love his defensive technique, his focus. I just have trouble buying into the upside with a 6’3 guard who doesn’t really create much and doesn’t really finish in the half-court. I see a role player there, I see 14 other guys right now with higher ceilings”.

“Could he sneak into that 10-14 range? Probably. But I think the more honest projection right now is late first-round. I’d rather project him as a late first-round and be wrong than project a lottery pick and be wrong… I’m gonna start Bronny off as late first, but he has to prove something to me at USC before I put out lottery projections”.

Wasserman’s comments may upset fans of Bronny, but he is not entirely wrong. Currently, Bronny is a very good player, but not the type of player who becomes a lottery pick. However, it should be noted that Bronny has not had the chance to show what he can do outside of the high school circuit, so rushing to judgment would not be a good idea.

Bronny James Will Have To Prove Doubters Wrong

Bronny James clearly doesn’t have a lot of advocates going into his first year at USC. In fact, Kenny Smith also said that Bronny is improbable to succeed in the NBA. But James has the golden opportunity to prove everyone wrong by putting in the work on the court.

One has to feel for Bronny, as there has been a microscope on him ever since he started playing organized basketball. Because of who his dad is, Bronny is expected to be great. Much like his father LeBron James, Bronny will be entering the league with a lot of expectations.

While the expectations placed on LeBron James were very different, Bronny will be feeling the pressure. But he has a great chance to prove everyone wrong by putting in the work and wowing audiences with his play at USC. With the world watching, Bronny has a lot to show everyone.
