The Brooklyn Nets have no intention of parting ways with Mikal Bridges this offseason, regardless of all the rumors surrounding the talented player. After landing from the Phoenix Suns in the Kevin Durant trade, Bridges made a good impression on the team.
Even though he’s drawn a lot of attention around the league, the Nets aren’t interested in moving him anytime soon, per John Hollinger of The Athletic.
“On a related front, I have some terrible news for fans generating fake Mikal Bridges trades: The Nets don’t seem to have much incentive to play ball here. Brooklyn owes unprotected picks to Houston in 2024 and 2026 and unprotected swaps in 2025 and 2027. Thus, Brooklyn trading its good players and tanking would do a lot more for the Rockets than the Nets. Brooklyn’s likely best path forward is to muddle along with a Bridges-centric team, especially since he’s signed through 2026 to one of the league’s best contracts.”
Bridges has been mentioned in several trade rumors recently. The Sacramento Kings appear to be interested in his services, and the Portland Trail Blazers could also make a run for him, but none of that is happening, according to Hollinger.
The Nets have a solid core of players that can make some noise in the future, and Bridges is expected to be the leader of the pack. It won’t be easy, but Bridges isn’t afraid of the challenge. He posted 26.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in 27 games with Brooklyn this season.
Mikal Bridges Still Pissed About Being Traded For Kevin Durant
Bridges is playing with a chip on his shoulder, especially after he was traded to the Nets. He envisioned himself playing in Phoenix for the rest of his career, and even though he admitted he would have traded himself for Kevin Durant, rumors have it that Bridges holds a grudge against the Suns.
He lived the same situation with the Philadelphia 76ers, who traded him on draft night. Mikal has taken things personally ever since, and perhaps, if the Nets deal him next, they will join his blacklist.
