Mikal Bridges and the Sacramento Kings have had good runs despite not being able to advance past the first round of the 2023 NBA playoffs.
And now, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley believes the Kings could make a beeline for the Brooklyn Nets star in the offseason.
“The Kings need to be careful,” he said. “As evidenced by their first-round exit, they need to keep expanding their talent base—and do it quickly, since 25-year-old De’Aaron Fox and 27-year-old Domantas Sabonis are right in the heart of their primes. Sacramento could send quite a message by winning the bidding war for Mikal Bridges, then.”
“While it’s possible (if not probable) the Brooklyn Nets will hang onto Bridges and see how much better he can get, they could also reasonably expect to land a mountain of assets in exchange for him,” Buckley further added.
Bridges was traded to the Nets ahead of the trade deadline as part of the massive blockbuster trade featuring Kevin Durant, and he made an instant splash on his new squad averaging 26.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.
As for the Kings, they were one of the most impressive teams this season, making the playoffs after a 16-year drought and making it challenging for the Golden State Warriors by putting them 0-2 in the first round. They were, however, undone by the defending champions’ experience.
A Bridges-Kings linkup will surely make Sacramento one of the more formidable teams to watch out for. But it remains to be seen if Brooklyn will be willing to part with their superstar.
Paul George Lavishes Praises Mikal Bridges Calling Him The Most Underrated Player In The 2023 Playoffs
Earlier, LA Clippers star guard Paul George was all praise for Bridges for his impressive performances this season.
“He is definitely underrated in this playoff race this year. The stage is set for him to become a star, this is where you become a star,” he said on his podcast, Playoff P.
“Nothing is expected of you but to go out and compete and he could knock this sh*t out of the park. He’s playing in a huge market in Brooklyn, he has the chance to be a star right now. The way he’s been playing to close the year out, I didn’t know he could be a go-to guy. He’s putting up the 30s and 40s, I had no idea because he was in Phoenix, I have always seen him as he’ll be a great role player. He makes the team better.”
George was spot-on when he outlined Bridges’ consistency. While the Nets are young and rebuilding side, they have a leader and a skilled player in Bridges, and maybe if he can continue to do better in the upcoming season, the Nets will surely be bonafide playoff contenders.
