Austin Reaves and his future with the Los Angeles Lakers have been generating all the buzz after his game-winning performance against the Orlando Magic. And former NBA star Chandler Parsons believes the guard deserves more than a $50 million contract.

Sharing his thoughts on The Athletic’s Sham’s Charania’s views on how Reaves was looking at a four-year, $50 million deal — the maximum that LA could offer, Parsons believed the latter was worth a lot more. “I think he gets more… “he said. “Hit him with that Chandler Parsons contract, yeah, make it hard on the Lakers and I think he is out.”

It should be noted that there have been instances when the Lakers have let some of the best and brightest in their fold go (Alex Caruso for one), but they can’t afford to make that slip with Reaves, who has been one of the more impressive faces for the side this season.

The Lakers’ salary cap for the 2023-24 season has six players raking in the moolah, and they have eight players, including Reaves, who would be free agents. The last thing they intend to see is Reaves blossom elsewhere. Only time will tell if they indeed offer him a lucrative and more importantly, a deserving deal.

The Lakers And Austin Reaves Are Reportedly Interested In Continuing The Relationship

By the looks of it, Reaves may end up extending his stint with LA. Per recent reports, both parties were keen on extending their relationship.

According to The Athletic’s Jovan Buha, “Both the Lakers and Reaves’ camp have interest in Reaves re-signing in Los Angeles, according to multiple league sources who were granted anonymity so that they could speak freely.”

“The max the Lakers can offer Reaves is a four-year, $50.8 million contract if they chose to use his Early Bird Rights, but they also have the power to match any contract he signs with another team,” Buha said. Conversely, a rather sour deal could also see Reaves take his talent elsewhere.

Only time will tell if Reaves will be part of the Lakers next season. Expect some brickbats hitting the front office window if the think-tank loses a versatile player in Reaves.
