Michael Jordan is widely regarded as the best basketball player to ever play in the NBA. There are many reasons behind the legendary status of MJ, and winning accolades consistently is one of them.

But were there any seasons where Jordan was robbed of winning awards, especially the MVP award? Well, former NBA superstar and current analyst Charles Barkley thinks that was the case. Chuck recently explained how Michael Jordan was already the best player in the NBA before winning the first MVP award of his career.

“Michael Jordan probably was the best player in the NBA for probably five years before he won an MVP because his team was no good,” Barkley said. “So they have these silly things every year, and it’s really just the feelings of these morning talk shows. Everybody in the NBA knew Michael Jordan was the best player for five years before he won MVP.”

Barkley’s statement about Michael Jordan was part of his rant about the ever-changing standards of the MVP voters.

Charles is clearly frustrated with the inconsistency in the voting. Because, as Chuck said, if the voting was truly neutral, the likes of Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant would have at least a couple of more MVP awards in their bags.

Michael Jordan Had A Habit Of Winning The MVP Award

Winning the regular season MVP award is a dream come true for most NBA players. However, for Michael Jordan, it was an easy task.

During his career in the NBA, MJ won five regular season MVP awards and finished second in the rankings four times.

In addition to that, Jordan always showed up in the NBA Finals. So, he also won six NBA Finals MVP awards. On that note, when we combine MJ’s regular season and NBA Finals MVP awards tally, he has the most in the history of the league, with 11 to his name.

Just another reason why Michael Jordan is the GOAT of basketball for most fans around the globe.
