The city of San Antonio did nothing wrong to deserve the latest jab from NBA analyst Charles Barkley, but the former superstar just couldn’t help himself after watching the Spurs beat the Pacers earlier this month.

Speaking on Victor Wembanyama, Barkley poked fun at the obesity rate in the city in what has become an ongoing joke for the TNT crew.

“I’ll tell you what, Victor Wembanyama will be great in San Antonio. If he goes to San Antonio, he’ll definitely gain some weight,” Barkley said on NBA On TNT. “He won’t have to worry about being skinny down there. He won’t have to worry about being skinny in San Antonio. Hey, Victor, go to San Antonio, they’ll put some weight on you.”

For the uninitiated, Barkley’s quote probably seems like a random and unnecessary jab. But for those who frequently watch Barkley on ‘Inside the NBA,’ it’s likely that you’re already familiar with the running gag…

Chuck is obviously known for his comedy, but many fans took issue with the way he was constantly talking about San Antonio women and, apparently, he was told to stop mentioning the subject altogether.

But people should know that it’s all in good fun and Barkley isn’t intending to hurt anyone with his jokes.

“If you crack a joke the wrong way, they’re like, ‘Oh no, no, no, no, you crossed the line,’” said Barkley. “They won’t even let me talk about San Antonio anymore. When I’m always talking about them big ole women down in San Antonio. They’re like, ‘Charles, we got one lady wrote an article.’ I’m like, ‘First of all, I didn’t call anybody personally fat in San Antonio. I was just joking around, and when this one lady wrote this article, I’m like, ‘So y’all gonna let one lady.’ We been having fun with this for probably 10, 15 years, and when we go to San Antonio, the people are having a blast with it. The people in San Antonio, they had T-shirts made up.”

As for Wembanyama, the Spurs might just be the best place in the league for him to start his career.

Will The Spurs Win This Year’s Draft Lottery?

With a 16-49 record this season, San Antonio is deep into the Wemby sweepstakes and rebuilding their young roster.

So far, they have found a couple of studs in Jeremy Sochan and Keldon Johnson, but they are still waiting for that All-NBA level talent.

Victor could be the guy who fulfills that role for them, but they’ll have to hope for some luck in the draft lottery for that to actually happen.
