There have been a lot of hyped prospects throughout NBA history, and ahead of the 2023 NBA Draft, the biggest name has been Victor Wembanyama. He has received a huge amount of hype from the media, and many believe that he can eventually become one of the GOATs of basketball.

There is no doubt that many have compared the hype Victor Wembanyama is receiving to what it was like for LeBron James when he was coming out of high school. However, Damian Lillard recently poured cold water on that comparison, noting that he was in “7th grade” and already saw LeBron James hyped on ESPN.

“I was in 7th grade when they was Hyping Bron on ESPN! Mf still at the top 20 years later … stop playing with dude bra… it’s gettin outa pocket”

There are few prospects that have received as much hype as LeBron James let alone delivered on it. Perhaps it is unfair to subject Victor Wembanyama to those comparisons, but it is clear that his talent has caused a lot of people to have high expectations for him.

LeBron James Has A High Opinion Of Victor Wembanyama

There is no doubt that LeBron James has a high opinion of Victor Wembanyama, and he previously called the young prospect “an alien”. He also noted that Wembanyama is a “generational talent”.

“What do I think of him? Probably the same as everybody else thinks. Everybody is labeling [players] this ‘unicorn’ thing; everybody has been a ‘unicorn’ over the last couple years, but he’s more like an alien,” James told reporters. “I’ve never seen — no one has ever seen — anyone as tall as he is but as fluid as he is and as graceful as he is out on the floor. I mean, at 7-foot-4 or 7-foot-5 or 7-foot-3 or whatever the case may be, [with] his ability to put the ball on the floor, shoot step-back jumpers out of the post, step-back threes, catch-and-shoot threes, block shots — he’s for sure a generational talent.

“Hopefully, he continues to stay healthy; that’s what is most important for him personally. But you can tell he loves the game; he was smiling a lot while playing the game last night. I think those were the two best players in the [2023] draft on the floor last night, and they both did their thing. He’s a big-time player, and Scoot is a big-time player as well.”

It will be interesting to see how good Victor Wembanyama is when he enters the league. He definitely has the potential to be a game-changing talent, and we’ll see what ends up happening in the future.
