Dillon Brooks has become the laughing stock of the NBA after a season’s worth of trash-talk that ended with him struggling in the playoffs and seeing the end of his Grizzlies’ tenure.

Shams Charania confirmed that Brooks will not be returning to Memphis under any circumstances, a report that has upset Brooks’ agent Mike George. He attacked Shams on Twitter.

“The leader of spreading false news and attacking players. Why any player in the league talks to this guy blows my mind. #weirdo.”

Brooks was reportedly expecting a $25 million per year contract offer from the Grizzlies, a number that’s wholly unrealistic given his struggles and the negative attention he’s brought to the Grizz.

Shams has an incredible track record with breaking news, possibly the most trusted reporter in the sport alongside Adrian Wojanrowski. He’s unlikely to make a story if he didn’t have it on good authority.

Dillon Brooks Left Holding The Bag?

Was leaking the news of Dillon’s imminent departure harsh by Memphis? Many believe so, as it makes Dillon’s failures shine brighter than the collective issues that plagued the franchise the entire season. There was a culture of talking too much that even their star is guilty of, but Brooks is being held to the fire a lot more.

The Grizzlies have to address the culture of the franchise, as they’ve been in the playoffs for three seasons now without any success to show for it. Eventually, they need to be held to the standards of contenders. They have been embarrassed as the two-seed in the West, as they were the favorites heading into the season even with all their injury issues.

Brooks has minimal options from the looks of it, but there is value to be had with his perimeter defense and shooting ability. He may have had bad shooting numbers this season, but his success in years prior definitely makes him worth taking a chance on.
