• Draymond Green re-signed with the Warriors this summer but did test the free-agent market

• The Sacramento Kings were expected to be in the running for Draymond’s signature

• Domantas Sabonis discussed the possible partnership on a podcast

Draymond Green and Domantas Sabonis are going to look at each other as rivals for the foreseeable future after a very physical battle between the pair during the first-round series between the Warriors and Kings in the 2023 Playoffs.

There were questions about Draymond possibly leaving Golden State this summer, with the Kings being tipped as a leading destination. Sabonis was asked about that rumor and possible teaming up with Draymond, something he says was never on the cards.

“As a player on the team, you get inside scoops from your GM and players. That really never even crossed my mind, I know you’ve seen it on social media. Once the move was made (Sabonis’ contract extension), at least I was aware of the next steps.”

Draymond re-signed with the Warriors on a four-year, $100 million contract while Sabonis signed a five-year, $217 million extension.

Green notoriously stamped on Sabonis’ chest during the playoffs in a very intense seven-game matchup where Domas averaged 16.4 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists during the series while Draymond averaged 9.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 8.0 assists in six games, being suspended for one due to his stomp.

Did The Sacramento Kings Make A Run At Draymond Green?

If the Kings did make a run at Green and it failed, there’s no way Sabonis would come out and openly discuss it. We can’t really confirm this outside the initial reports, and it becomes a question of either believing Sabonis when he says the Kings never tried to sign Draymond or the reports suggesting they wanted to sign Draymond.

The team dumped salary on the Mavericks during the 2023 NBA Draft for what many thought would be a marquee signing such as Green. Instead, the extra money went on extensions for Domantas Sabonis and Harrison Barnes

Those are smart moves too, but there’s no way of knowing if the team pondered making Draymond an offer before extending their incumbent stars.
