• Shaun Livingston is happy with the Warriors acquiring Chris Paul

• The three-time champion believes CP3 adds offensive diversity to Golden State

• The Warriors trade away Jordan Poole this summer to acquire Paul

The Warriors made a risky move this summer when they gave up Jordan Poole and future picks for Chris Paul before the 38-year-old almost got waived. Nonetheless, members of the team and organization seem optimistic about the move.

Shaun Livingston won titles with Golden State as Stephen Curry‘s backup in 2015, 2017, and 2018. He knows what it took for those teams to win titles and thinks CP3 will be a solid addition that gives the team more offensive diversity, as he told NBC Sports.

“When you go back and look at our teams that were able to win on the road – and I’m talking about winning on the road, which you have to do in the playoffs – you’ve got to be able to get stops. Period. But you also need a little bit of diversity in your offense. Our teams had that. Of course, we had it with KD. But even with the teams before he came, we had other ways of scoring… Chris brings that. He brings another playmaker and someone who is trusted in the moments that matter the most.”

Chris Paul averaged 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 8.9 assists last season for the Suns and will hope to pack a punch for the Warriors’ second unit.

His health and productivity at his age will be heavily scrutinized, but a reduced load with the Warriors could help him make it through the season.

Chris Paul Changes Up The Warriors’ Offense

Jordan Poole was a gifted scorer and allowed the Warriors to run the same schemes they did for Stephen Curry when Curry was off the floor. The problem there is that Poole isn’t Curry, and the team’s offense had become predictable.

Along with that, there were no floor coordinators on the roster outside of Draymond Green, so the bench units were getting massacred by opponents when led by Poole.  Not only will Paul slow the game down, but he will also play a pass-first role that highlights the likes of Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody.

CP’s size and durability will be a concern but the Warriors will hope to put together the perfect lineup that allows them to continue succeeding in an incredibly competitive Western Conference.
