Domantas Sabonis has made quite an impact in his relatively short stint so far with the Sacramento Kings. The Lithuanian, who was traded to the Kings by the Indiana Pacers in 2022, helped end Sacramento’s 16-year playoff drought this past season.
He averaged 19.1 PPG, 12.3 RPG, 7.3 APG, 0.8 SPG, and 0.5 BPG in 2022-23, and the Kings have been so impressed by his play, that they have given him a massive extension for it.
“Sacramento Kings All-NBA C Domantas Sabonis has agreed to a contract renegotiation and extension for a total of $217M over five years — including $195M in new money, his agents Greg Lawrence and Jason Ranne tell ESPN.”

Sabonis had signed a four-year, $77 million extension with the Pacers in 2019 and could have made $22 million in 2023-24, the final year of that deal.
With the renegotiation, he’ll be earning $30.6 million next season, as per Woj, after which it seems to be an average of over $45 million per year for four seasons.
It is somewhat poetic that a day after Tyrese Haliburton agreed on a five-year deal with the Pacers that could be worth up to $260 million, Sabonis would get his new deal too. The trade involving these two was really a rare case of a win-win for both teams.
Domantas Sabonis And The Kings Are On The Rise
Sabonis’ play and the Kings’ success led to him earning a spot on the All-NBA Third Team as well. What makes this even more impressive from Sabonis, is that he played much of the season with a fractured thumb.
Offseason surgery was potentially on the cards to fix it, although it is unclear if he has undergone one. Whatever the case, Sabonis should be fully healthy next season and will be looking to help the Kings have another strong campaign.
They were the third seed with a 48-34 record in 2022-23 and will be hoping to get to 50 wins for the first time in nearly two decades next season. You wouldn’t bet against them at this point, with Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox leading the way.
The two of them are also getting some help in the form of EuroLeague MVP Sasha Vezenkov, who just signed with the Kings on a three-year, $20 million deal.
