Dillon Brooks became the butt of all jokes after a disastrous 2023 postseason. He poked the bear that was LeBron James with his trash talk, and it brutally backfired on him.

He had a terrible series against the Los Angeles Lakers, with averages of 10.5 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 1.8 APG, and 0.2 SPG, and has had to hear one too many jokes after that about his next pit-stop being in China. After he got a four-year, $80 million deal from the Houston Rockets in free agency, his agent, Mike George, hilariously tweeted in Chinese to congratulate him.

“Congratulations to DB for signing with the Rockets. Looking forward to a great year! By the way, we will be visiting China soon.”

That was a really clever and funny way to take a shot at those who mocked his client. Brooks had a very rough postseason, as mentioned earlier, but the fact is he is still a good player.

He excels on defense, having made All-Defensive Second Team this past season, and that is always something that NBA teams value highly. $20 million per year was an overpay, though, and you have to give credit to George for getting this good of a deal for his client.

Dillon Brooks’ Potential Impact On The Rockets

When the Memphis Grizzlies decided that they were not going to re-sign Brooks, the Rockets were touted as a potential landing spot. They had the cap space, and a defensive-minded coach like Ime Udoka would need players like him.

The Rockets were 29th in the league in defensive rating last season at 118.6, as per the NBA, and Brooks would certainly help with improving them on that end of the floor. The addition of Fred VanVleet will also help their defense and the two of them would also provide some veteran leadership to a young locker room that desperately needs it.

Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
