The NBA season has had no dearth of narratives around the league, with the drama dialed up to high all season. The Brooklyn Nets have been at the center of it all, finally deciding to give up and end their failed superteam era by trading away Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
But that’s not been the only drama in the league, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Golden State Warriors have all had issues they’ve had to contend with.
The running joke around the NBA and the NFL for a long time has been that there is a script they follow to make the sport more exciting. This started when a former NFL player claimed he would get a script before every game telling the players what the outcome of the encounter would be.
The jokes have been endless, and the theories about the script have been around for a while, including when the Warriors winning Game 5 against the Grizzlies in last season’s playoffs was seemingly already predicted.
Donovan Mitchell Is Getting A Bit Tired About The Script Jokes But Has Some Hopes For The Season
Donovan Mitchell has seemingly gone up a level after joining the Cleveland Cavaliers this season. The guard has been scoring at an unprecedented level, even logging a 71-point game during the season. And his Cavaliers look good, so when asked about the supposed script, he had a fun response and one that could even excite some Cavs fans.
Interviewer: “Can you tell us what’s in the NBA script for tomorrow night? And for the rest of the season?”
Donovan Mitchell: “These script jokes are getting out of hand, first and foremost. I don’t know.”
Interviewer: Cavs championship in there?”
Donovan Mitchell: “That’s the goal. That’s why we play this game, so hopefully, yeah.”
The Cavaliers have what it takes to challenge at the top of the Eastern Conference, especially with the Brooklyn Nets now not the threat they were before. Beating the Top 3 in the conference will be difficult, but the talent is present on the team to make a push deep into the playoffs. And if they end up coming out of the East over the likes of the Sixers, Celtics, and Bucks, it’ll certainly be a script no fans expected at the start of the season.
