Draymond Green was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in the second round and has since become one of the greatest to ever play for the franchise. Despite not being the flashiest player, Green has contributed in numerous ways to help the team win four championships.
Normally, it might be a no-brainer that a player like Draymond Green would stay with the franchise forever. For a multitude of reasons though, there have been suggestions that he will leave the Warriors. He made his stance on the situation clear recently.
“Obviously I have an opt-out. Everybody knows about that. I know about that, I’m aware of that. But as I’ve told you guys, for years, I want to be a Warrior for the rest of my life. I wanna ride out with the same dudes I rode in with.
“And I think we’ve put the work in to make that happen and here we are with our worst season as a whole since 2014 and yet, we had a chance to make another run. It’s never as bad as it seems, it’s never as good as it seems…”

The Warriors have a lot of assessing to do considering how soundly they were beaten by the Lakers. Only Stephen Curry is likely to be a guaranteed mainstay, and even the likes of Klay Thompson and Draymond Green could be on their way out. Green reportedly wants a max contract and while his game is more than about stats, it’s hard to justify giving a big deal to someone averaging 8.5 points per game in the modern NBA.
Draymond Green Has A Player Option With The Warriors This Summer
Draymond has a $27 million player option with the Warriors this summer and if they offer him a long-term contract for three or four years, he will probably accept. Otherwise, he could leave the Warriors if any of the other teams offer him a max contract because if we look at his age and performances, this might be his last large contract in the NBA.
He deserves to stay with the Warriors, he was a key member for all four championships and has built the franchise to some degree. But because of the salary cap and luxury tax constraints, the Warriors might let him go. The only problem for Green could be his issues with Jordan Poole and other similar problems, but that is up to the organization to deal with.
