Gordon Hayward Plans To Leave Celtics For Birth Of Child: ‘It’s A Pretty Easy Decision’

2 Min Read

Gordon Hayward is fully focused on helping the Boston Celtics transcend this upcoming NBA playoff, but he knows there is one motive that can and will make him leave the team even in the middle of their playoff run. Hayward’s wife, Robyn, is expecting their fourth child and the birth would make Hayward leave Orlando.

“There’ll be a time if and when we’re down there and she’s going to have the baby, I’m for sure going to be with her,” Hayward said, via ESPN. “We’ll have to cross that bridge when we get there.”

“It’s a pretty easy decision for me on that,” Hayward said. “I’ve been at the birth of every one of my children, and I think there are more important things in life. So we’ll cross that bridge when we get there… I know the NBA has a protocol for that type of thing, and hopefully I can do the quarantining and testing the appropriate amount of time and then be back with the boys.”

He will be allowed the leave the bubble by the NBA, but that will mean the Celtics will have to play without Gordon for more days, even after his return. Any player that leaves the bubble and returns will have to test negative for COVID-19 each day that he is outside of Orlando, and then he would have to self-quarantine for four days after returning.

Hayward is sure about what he wants to do when that time comes and he’s not changing his mind. Family is more important than any game in the world and he’s well aware of that. Furthermore, he will receive his first baby boy, so this occasion is extremely important and special for him.
