The Dallas Mavericks have continued overhauling their roster this summer, making a big acquisition of Grant Williams in a sign-and-trade. The former Celtics forward will now be a crucial frontcourt addition in Dallas.

Williams spoke exclusively to Jared Weiss of The Athletic about his move to Dallas, exuding excitement over joining Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

“The talent on this team is absurd. Kyrie and Luka, being able to put two superstars of that nature, two top 10 players, or whatever you want to say, Kyrie is one of the best point guards in the league still. As well as those young guys they have to grow and compete like (Olivier-Maxence Prosper), they drafted Dereck Lively. The Seth Currys, the vets in the world, they’re really talented.”

Williams is one of several additions the Mavericks have made this summer, reshaping their roster after a disastrous failure to make the playoffs last season. With Kyrie re-signed and crucial additions, the Mavericks look dangerous.

The Mavericks Winning The Offseason

The moves the Mavs have made haven’t been high profile. Their work started on draft day when they flipped the 10th pick and the contract of Davis Bertans into Dereck Lively II, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, and Richaun Holmes. In free agency, they re-signed Kyrie Irving to a smaller contract than anticipated, brought back fan favorite Seth Curry, and kept Dwight Powell around for his 10th season with the team.

They made a questionable decision to bring back former NBA swingman Dante Exum, who was playing in Europe. Yesterday, they signed Matisse Thybulle to a three-year, $33 million offer sheet which the Blazers can match, and traded for Williams. The Mavs have added size and wing depth, their two biggest needs.

The team could surely make another move to bolster their starting center spot using Richaun Holmes or Tim Hardaway Jr. as trade chips. They’re looking far better than the roster that started last season, so the team will be excited.
