With his team leading the Western Conference (tied with Denver), Ja Morant hasn’t been shy about flashing his sky-high confidence.
This week, in a sit-down with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Morant flexed that confidence yet again when asked to identify potential threats across the league. Besides the Boston Celtics, Ja didn’t have much else to say and seemed unbothered by the mention of competitors in the West.
Malika Andrews: “Who do you look at around the league as you’re studying and say, ‘We’re gonna have to run through them?'”
Ja Morant: “Celtics”
Andrews: “No one in the West.”
Morant: “Nah. I’m fine in the West.”

To give full credit to Ja, the Grizzlies have looked like one of the best teams in the West so far this season and are tied for the first seed deposit missing several key players throughout the season.
Still, with no playoff success under this resume, not everyone appreciates how loudly Morant’s been talking.
Are The Grizzlies The Team To Beat In The West?
While the Grizzlies are looking strong right now, even without Bane, they haven’t proven they can win when it matters the most. Last playoffs, they got eliminated by the Warriors, who went on to win the title.
But if you ask Morant, his team would have won that series had they stayed healthy.
According to Ja Morant, however, Memphis should have come out with more than a few lessons. According to him, the Grizzlies would have won the series had they managed to stay healthy.
Ja Morant talked about losing to the Warriors in the playoffs tonight: “I felt we had (the series vs the Warriors). That’s what I took from it. Injuries just hurt us.”
Whatever you think about the Grizzlies or their playoff loss last year, it’s obvious now they’re going to be a force for a long time coming and Ja will have more than his fair share of opportunities to prove that he’s the best in the league.
But until he goes out there and makes a deep playoff run (to the Conference Finals and beyond), there will always be doubts about how far they can go. It shouldn’t be long now before Morant puts those doubts to bed once and for all.
