Isiah Thomas’s career was defined by how his Bad Boy Pistons teams played, both for the better and for the worse. Their physical and aggressive style led them to two NBA championships, which also caused many other NBA teams and stars to hate them.

Isiah Thomas had issues with Michael Jordan, which have carried on to this day. He had problems with Magic Johnson and Larry Bird as well, and it resulted in him not being named to the Dream Team in 1992. While the Detroit Pistons legend has often expressed his sadness with that decision, he also recently named the one positive to take from it.

“But let me say this. My not making it has given me more pub than if I would’ve made it. There’s always some good and some bad with it. I like the fact that people acknowledge it even if the institutions didn’t acknowledge it. The people acknowledge that I should’ve been on the team, so I’m good with that.”

They say there is no such thing as bad publicity, and who knows that better than Isiah Thomas and the Detroit Pistons? It’s good to see that he has been able to move on from the experience to the point where he can see the positives from it. He certainly hasn’t always felt that way. He also explained how he went through those emotions.

Isiah Thomas Revealed His Initial Reaction To Dream Team Snub

The Dream Team is often considered the greatest team ever assembled, and as such, missing out on it wasn’t great for Thomas. In the same interview, he spoke about how he moved on from it.

“Was I mad? Was I upset?” he asked. “I probably went through all those ranges of emotion. I’m from the west side of Chicago, so it’s like, hey you didn’t make it. What are you gonna do? You can cry about it or you can move on with your life.

“So I just kept moving on. I watched every game and rooted for the USA to win. I had won the gold medal in 1979, and I made the Olympic team in ’80 that was boycotted. Was hoping I’d make this one. I didn’t make it. I don’t know why I didn’t make it. Do I feel like I should’ve been on it? Absolutely.”

Nothing can ever make a snub like that feel good, but at least Isiah Thomas can rest knowing he would have made the team if it was about talent and achievement alone. The rivalries from that era have stayed relevant, things rarely get this intense in the modern NBA between stars.
