Despite having a great 2022-23 NBA season with the Philadelphia 76ers, James Harden could end his tenure with the team after this season is over. The guard keeps playing at a good level, but his future could be on a different team.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Harden’s future after this season is very unclear, and he could make a shocking return to Houston if he leaves the Sixers.
“James Harden’s future is very unclear in Philadelphia,” said Wojnarowski on his podcast, via RealGM. “Houston is very much in play for him. And I think a lot may depend on [whether] they make a run and win and it’s easy to pay him long-term big money, or he just wants to be in Houston. Win or lose he goes, or it’s dependent on the team’s success.”
This will all depend on how the Sixers end up faring during the 2023 NBA Playoffs. As of right now, they are looking solid, dominating the Brooklyn Nets in the first two games of their first-round series.
Now, if they once again fail to even make it to the Eastern Conference Finals, Harden could pack and leave. Joel Embiid will try to prevent that, but it doesn’t seem like he’ll have much to say if the team fails to make a deep playoffs run this year.
James Harden Looks Close To Returning To Houston
This isn’t new around the league, as rumors suggest Harden will rejoin the Houston Rockets. Some say this is a big possibility since he never really left the city. He spends a lot of time there, the team still has love for him, and Harden would be very welcome if he decided to run it back.
However, all of that can change if the Sixers manage to make it to the Finals. Everybody is wary about their chances, but they could surprise the world and show that they can compete against anybody.
Time will tell how this situation plays out, but every month these rumors surface.
