The Dallas Mavericks changed their perception around the league when they reached the Western Conference Finals last season with a rookie head coach in Jason Kidd, who seemed to perfect the Luka Doncic offensive system within one season. However, season two has been a rough one so far, and got rougher for the Mavs tonight.

While trailing big in the third quarter, both Luka and Kidd were ejected from the game after Doncic received his second technical foul and Kidd rushed the court to defend him. The loss coupled with the ejection made Kidd sour after the game, as he refused to answer media questions.

“I’m here because I have to be here. I already gave up money. I don’t want to give up any more. No questions, we’ll go back and look at the tape and see how we can get better. They were a better team tonight and we’ll go from there.”

The Mavericks are going through a rough patch and there seems to be no respite coming. Kidd’s coaching has been under the scanner this season as well, as clunky rotations and horrible late-game playcalling have cost the Mavs many games this season.

Are There Any Trade Targets That Can Save The Mavericks?

The Dallas Mavericks always aim high when looking for players to trade for. They’re still paying the price of the Kristaps Porzingis trade and can only get their first-round pick this year if it is in the top 10 of the lottery. They’re better off losing the pick and having a full set of future draft assets to work with. That’s only possible if they make the playoffs and aren’t in the lottery, to begin with.

The trade market might need to be looked at to give the Mavericks some depth beyond the wildly inconsistent wings on the roster. Moving a player like Reggie Bullock with a pick might get them a temporary upgrade. In the long run, the Mavs are better off not doing anything this season and waiting for the summer to make a big splash for a genuine co-star for Doncic
