Being in the NBA comes with many perks. Besides the riches, players can enjoy being famous and known throughout the country.

But sometimes, being recognized by the fans can easily turn into a bad situation and that’s exactly what NBA big man JaVale McGee experienced while attending a soccer match this week.

In a clip that has gone viral online, McGee records himself during an interaction with one strange lurker who was quietly recording him without his consent.

“This the dude here, who thinks I don’t know what he doing. Reaction or some sh*t, I don’t know what he’s trying to do. He’s just on some weird sh*t. We’re grown men around here who grew up before the social media age, so this sh*t doesn’t phase us. We had real ones step to us and we really had to put sh*t down.”

Towards the end, the unnamed man tried to speak up and say something, but it’s clear that JaVale wanted one of it. Sadly, this sort of behavior has become a common occurrence for athletes and other celebrities, who are often goated or baited into lashing out against people.

We don’t know what the man was trying to with his phone, but props to JaVale for staying calm and handling it in the safest way possible.

Fan Behavior Has Become Point Of Concern Across The NBA

Over the past few seasons, it seems like we are seeing more and more people breach player privacy and many players have taken notice.

While it can often be distracting and uncomfortable, some (like Draymond Green) use hecklers as motivation to perform better on the court.

“Everyone on our team heard the guy on the baseline talking – or on the sideline – and everyone, including our coaches, were like, ‘Draymond, shut him up’. It wasn’t just me that fed off that. I think everybody fed off that,” said Warriors star Draymond Green. “Shout out to that guy. He kept saying, ‘you think you’re a Hall of Famer? I better not ever hear you say that again’. I’m like that, bro, I’ve been like that. Don’t do that. Sometimes you gotta, what they say, let a sleeping dog lie. He should’ve just let me stay where I was. It wasn’t here. It wasn’t here so I appreciate it.”

JaVale isn’t getting too many minutes nowadays, but perhaps he can use this experience in the same way Draymond did. While the circumstance where are obviously very different, fan player deserves to be harassed when they’re trying to live their life.
