Jimmy Butler missed a crucial three in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals in 2022 that robbed the Heat of a Finals appearance and sent the Boston Celtics to their first Finals since 2008.

After that loss, Butler told the media that the Heat would be back in that position and pull it off. After seeing what just happened in Game 7, it is safe to say he ensured he delivered on the promise he made to Miami.

“We had enough. Next year, we will have enough and we’re gonna be right back in this same situation and we’re gonna get it done.”

Butler was named Eastern Conference Finals MVP for his performances against the Celtics and is headed to his second NBA Finals since joining Miami in 2019. He averaged 24.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 6.1 assists in the series and had a much-needed 28-point performance in Game 7 to close Boston out in the TD Garden.

Miami Heat Facing Their Toughest Challenge Next

The Miami Heat have somehow knocked the Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics off as an eighth seed, despite the two teams being considered prohibitive Eastern Conference favorites. They’ll be heading into the Finals against the Denver Nuggets as the underdog once again, but this Nuggets team is a different challenge altogether.

Nikola Jokic has been on a tear, and the Nuggets are operating like a well-oiled machine in the playoffs. They have more continuity across their roster and with their coach, so Erik Spoelstra won’t be able to do what he just did to Joe Mazzulla when he’s going up against another veteran in Michael Malone.

The one thing Miami has proven is that counting them out is a huge mistake. It’ll be interesting to see if they can continue shocking the world in the Finals.
