Joel Embiid hasn’t been an explosive scoring machine in the Philadelphia 76ers’ first two playoff wins, but he hasn’t needed to be. Embiid has been a defensive force, though, and dominated rebounding in Game 2.

Joel Embiid gets a lot of calls from the referees, and things have been no different against the Brooklyn Nets. He has shot and made 19 free throws in two games. But the lack of calls against him has frustrated Nets Coach Jacque Vaughn, who spoke out about it. And Embiid has hit back at him in ruthless fashion.

“I saw, after the game last time, they kind of took the Nick Nurse route of begging for free throws and calling out the referees, and they did come out, and they got a lot of calls, which I guess is good for them,” Embiid said, as reported by Philly Voice

After Game 1, Jacque Vaughn made his plea to the officials, noting the lack of foul calls against Embiid. He specifically talked about the traveling and three-second violations that Embiid was supposedly committing.

“Hopefully they’ll be calling traveling and defensive three seconds on the big fella [Joel Embiid] next game, so I look forward to that,” Vaughn said.

Joel Embiid isn’t one to pull punches, he is a self-professed troll. So it’s no surprise that he took a shot at Vaughn and the Nets and even mentioned old rival Nick Nurse just because he could. The Philadelphia 76ers are in a great place in the series currently, though, so Embiid can say whatever he likes.

Nick Nurse Complained About The Way Joel Embiid Is Refereed In last Season’s Playoffs

As Joel Embiid himself referenced, this is not the first time an opposition Head Coach has complained about the way he is officiated. In the first round of last season’s Eastern Conference playoffs, Nick Nurse had an issue with the lack of offensive foul calls against Embiid

This eventually led to Embiid snapping back at him as well, and the Sixers ended up winning that series 4-2. The way things are going in the current series, though, the Nets will be happy if they can even win two games. The Philadelphia 76ers have won both games comfortably and it’s a good start to a crucial playoff run for Joel Embiid and his team.
