Jordan Poole Unseriously Shot A 3-Pointer When The Wizards Were Down 4 With More Than 20 Seconds Left On The Clock

Jordan Poole has once again gone viral for the wrong reasons after he attempted to bank in a three-pointer when his team was down four.

The Jordan Poole lowlight reel as a member of the Washington Wizards grew a bit longer during the game against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday night. When the Wizards were down 110-106 with over 20 seconds remaining, Poole attempted to bank in a three-pointer and unsurprisingly missed it.

It was a very ill-advised shot on Poole’s part. He was off balance and shot it off of one foot, and the chances of making that are slim unless you’re Stephen Curry. The 24-year-old also had a fairly clear path to the basket for a layup had he not attempted that three, and that would’ve made it a two-point game with around 20 seconds remaining.

The Wizards had a timeout left as well and had he just gone for that layup, we’d have had quite an interesting finish. Even if we assume that the plan there from the coaching staff was to hit a quick three-pointer, you can get a better look than that.

This kind of shot was never going in, especially with how poorly Poole shot the ball on the night. He ended the game with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal while shooting 5-17 from the field and 2-9 from beyond the arc. Thanks, in part, to his struggles and that shot, the Wizards went on to lose 112-108 to fall to 4-21.

While all of this was bad enough, Poole could have suffered an injury in the third quarter as well. He tried to sell a call by falling on the court after a shot and then on the next possession, slipped on that exact same spot, presumably thanks to his sweat on the court.

We have seen players suffer freakish injuries in these kinds of situations, but fortunately, Poole didn’t suffer any serious harm. It’ll just be one more play added to his blooper reel, though.

Chandler Parsons Took A Shot At Jordan Poole

These lowlights from Poole just show no signs of stopping at this point. One incident of note earlier this season was when he opted against hitting an open jumper and went for a layup that was blocked. Upon seeing that, former NBA player Chandler Parsons said Poole is young, immature, and arrogant.

It is hard to disagree with Parsons. There were high expectations of Poole with the Wizards but he has disappointed one and all at this point. Instead of looking like a potential franchise cornerstone, he appears to be an expendable piece for Washington.

It is incredible how just over a year ago, Poole’s stock was at an all-time high after helping the Golden State Warriors win the 2022 NBA championship. Now, it might be at an all-time low and it shows just how quickly things can change.

Kyle Kuzma Spoke On Jordan Poole’s Slow Start

Poole is now averaging 16.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game while shooting 40.9% from the field and 29.9% from three. I don’t think anyone expected him to struggle to this extent and teammate Kyle Kuzma spoke on Poole’s slow start with the Wizards.

“It’s tough when you’re coming from being a third or fourth option. I can speak on this because I’ve done it. You’re coming into a new situation and where you’re more of a focal point, it’s tough sometimes. That’s a lot of responsibility. You have to be able to obviously produce at a high level, but get your teammates involved, too.”

Perhaps with time, Poole might start putting up better numbers. That still won’t fix this lackadaisical attitude that he has on the court, though, and that’s something that needs to change first and foremost.
