Kendrick Perkins is considered a strong contender to replace Jalen Rose on ESPN’s NBA Countdown.

Per Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, Kendrick Perkins has emerged as a “strong contender” to replace Rose on NBA Countdown, assuming ESON promotes from within.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald shared a similar take, naming Perkins as one of several names the sports network will consider.

Other top candidates in the fray include J.J. Redick (who is also in the running to replace Jeff Van Gundy), Richard Jefferson, and Chiney Ogwumike.

A former NBA champion with the Boston Celtics, Perkins has gone on to become a household name with his appearances on Get Up, First Take, and NBA Today.

Despite the immense flak he garners at times, he is perceived as one of the TV hosts with great potential. He was one of the prime voices during the Joel Embiid vs Nikola Jokic MVP tussle this past season.

It’s interesting to see if he can bring to the fore what Rose did with his analysis on NBA Countdown.

Stephen A. Smith Was Upset With ESPN Laying Off Jalen Rose And Other Top Names

The ESPN layoff last month included 20 of their on-air personalities, including Jalen Rose, Jeff Van Gundy, and Keyshawn Johnson, among others, And Stephen A. Smith wasn’t pleased.

Speaking on The Stephen A. Smith Show earlier this week. “Friends of mine, actually, definitely respected colleagues who have done a phenomenal job and deserved better… they deserved better than the times we are living in.”

Surely, the sporting world will miss some prime voices in the analysis box, and Rose was one of the players who took his knowledge to the game to deliver concrete analysis. Now we wonder how Perkins will fare if he gets the nod.
